On Tuesday the 17th of May St Joseph’s played their final against Ardee on a cloudy morning in Drogheda. Although it was cloudy the conditions were good with football with very little wind and it wasn’t raining at the time of the match. The match was played in Drogheda town pitch and St Joseph’s had high hopes being undefeated in the league and finals so far.

St Joseph’s started the strongest, putting the pressure on first winning two free kicks high up the opponents pitch and running at Ardee from the very first few minutes.

However Ardee came back at St Joseph’s and scored a 1 on 1 to make it 1-0 ten minutes into the game. 3 minutes later Ardee doubled there score making it 2-0.

St Joseph’s replied by putting pressure on Ardee and winning a free kick in a good position but it wasn’t long before the opposition made it 3-0 with a quick counter attack.

As the half went on St Joseph’s began creating chances of their own and in the 25th minute Sam Cummins pulled one back after a free kick that was put into the box by Max Ferguson. It was 3-1 to Ardee. J

ust before half time St Joseph’s made it 3-2 with Phelim Masterson scoring a lovely header at the near post after a great ball in from a corner by Max Ferguson. It was 3-2 at half time with St. Joseph’s getting better as the game went on.

Half time 3-2 to Ardee

The second half started evenly with neither team having too many chances, but ten minutes into the second half St Joseph’s equaled the score with a great goal by Max Ferguson after brilliant play by Louie Masterson and Cormac Croinn.

The scores weren’t level for too long with Ardee scoring two goals in 2 minutes and St Joseph’s picking up a red card from a second yellow. It was 5-3 to Ardee with 15 minutes to go. However St Joseph’s refused to be beaten with Max Ferguson scoring a lovely header after another great corner from Cormac Croinn.

It wasn’t long before Ardee scored their 6th and it was 6-4 to Ardee. They scored again to make it 7-4. In the last few minutes of the game Christian Goold scored to make it 7-5, however it was too much for St Joseph’s.

Although St Joseph’s lost they put up a great fight and have had a brilliant year for football only losing one game which was the final.

Full time 7-5 to Ardee
