New Attendance Initiatives Launch to Encourage Students to be Attendance HEROs

A series of new attendance initiatives for the current term have been launched last week, aiming to remind both students and parents of the importance and benefits of full and timely school attendance.

The school has introduced several rewards to encourage students to maintain a high attendance record.

The plans were shared with students at all assemblies last week.

To incentivize attendance, several prizes are on offer. For the period between now and the midterm break on October 24th, students with 95% attendance will be entered into a draw for two €100 vouchers. These will be awarded through a raffle at midterm to students with the highest attendance. One voucher will be for a student in 1st to 3rd year, and the other for a student in 4th to 6th year.

The winners can choose the voucher from a place of their choice.

In addition to individual prizes, there will be rewards for form classes. The form classes with the best attendance in the junior cycle (1st-3rd year) and senior cycle (4th-6th year) will each win a class prize of their choosing.

Looking ahead, the school is organizing special trips. A day trip is planned for December 2025, and students with "super attendance" will be entered into a raffle to win a place. Another trip is being planned for May, with eligibility for the raffle based on excellent attendance from September to May.

The school emphasizes the significant impact of even a few days' absence. An attendance rate of 90%, for example, equates to 13 days absent and 78 subject hours missed over the school year. The ultimate goal is for students to be present for all 166 school days, ensuring they miss zero subject hours.

Parents are encouraged to review the school's attendance procedures and support these initiatives to help students achieve their full potential.
