TY Visit to the Finglas Trianing Centre

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Carmel Lennon and the dedicated team at the Finglas Training Centre for hosting our Transition Year students last week. This immersive visit provided our students with a firsthand look at the world of high-end technical training and apprenticeships.

A Deep Dive into Skilled Trades

During the tour, students moved beyond the classroom to witness the practical application of various disciplines. They explored several key sectors, including:

  • Aeronautical Engineering & Aircraft Maintenance: Seeing the precision required to keep the aviation industry moving.

  • Electrical & Plumbing: Understanding the modern technology and sustainability practices within these essential trades.

  • Mechanical Engineering: Observing the design and fabrication processes that power Irish industry.

Why This Matters for Transition Year

A core goal of the TY programme at St. Joseph’s is to encourage students to look toward the future with a broad perspective. This visit was more than just a tour; it offered:

  1. Direct Insight: Students spoke with instructors about the "earn-while-you-learn" apprenticeship model.

  2. Career Clarity: Many students discovered interests in fields they hadn't previously considered.

  3. Pathway Planning: Understanding the specific entry requirements and the high level of skill required for modern apprenticeships.

We are incredibly grateful to the Finglas Training Centre for their hospitality and for helping our students envision their future success.
