What is Data Bytes?

National College of Ireland (NCI) has developed Data Bytes, a Transition Year programme that helps students understand Data Science,

Data Bytes is a 6-week programme that builds on the curriculum of the data-handling cycle of both the Junior and Senior cycles. Taking students through the basics, this programme will cover topics such as:

  • What constitutes data and where to get it
  • Gather your own data - learn what makes a good survey and create one
  • Using Excel to prepare and analyse your data
  • Presenting and storytelling – using infographics, animation and videos to tell the story of your findings

Students are provided with bespoke e-learning materials. NCI tutors used relatable examples and innovative teaching methods to provide a solid grounding in Data Science. At the end of the 6 weeks, students will have a team project which they will showcase, culminating in an awards day with NCI providing prizes!

St Josephs was represented at Data Bytes by two teams of TY syudents who presented projects on Water quality and Fingals' trees.
