Dear Parent/Guardian,

The JCSP programme is a programme sponsored by the Department of Education and Skills, and has been successfully running in St. Joseph’s for many years. It is based on the concept that all young people can achieve success in school once they have enjoyed their time there.

The JCSP programme is not a substitute programme for the New Junior Cycle and students do not attend additional lessons, rather it is a method of providing additional support. The aim of this programme is to provide students with a positive experience of school through a number of approaches.

  1. Extra contact with teachers through the JCSP team.
  2. Additional educational workshops, competitions and celebrations.
  3. Initiatives – funding is provided for in-school projects (drama or digital storytelling are projects that have been funded in the past).
  4. Class trips - the 1st year students go on a “Buy a Book” trip followed by the cinema in December, the 2nd year students go on a “Maths Trail” trip and the 3rd years go on a history field trip. (Subject to Covid health and safety guidelines)
  5. Achievement is acknowledged on a whole school basis through subject statements.
  6. All JSCP students receive a certificate of achievement upon completion of the programme.

A place on this programme is being provided to your son/daughter. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any queries or would not like your son/daughter to avail of this opportunity.

Yours sincerely,

Róisín McGowan & Kevin Dowling
