Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)

Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)

Here at St Joseph’s, we like to work together to help your child develop his/her full potential and we welcome your involvement in the school. There are many opportunities offered to encourage your involvement, such as coffee mornings, courses for parents/guardians, the Parents Association, school events, talks for parents and Parent Teacher Meetings.

I’d like to introduce myself and explain the role of the Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) Coordinator. My name is Yvonne Kiely and my role is to act as a bridge between the home and the school and my focus is on your child’s education.

My work involves:

-Visiting parents and guardians in their homes -
Home visits can be unannounced, pre-arranged or by request. The purpose of home visits is to open up communication between home and school, provide information about the school, including courses in the school and services in the community and to encourage parents to become parent leaders who can be a resource for the school.

-Organising courses and talks for parents in the school -
This year we are providing a variety of courses for parents /guardians free of charge. A text is sent to inform you about them. Through these courses, we hope parents/guardians will feel welcome in the school, get to know other parents/guardians, learn new skills and feel more confident in supporting their children’s education.

  • Our Crochet Club runs every Thursday from 11am-12.30pm in our new Parents’ Room throughout the year. All materials are supplied and new members are always welcome. It’s a great, informal way of meeting other parents while learning a new skill.
  • Parents Plus is a fantastic 7-week course that takes the guesswork out of raising and managing teenagers! It runs Fridays from 10-12pm. Term two begins in January. Pre-registration required.
  • Together with Swords Fingal Adult Education, this term we have an 8-week Spanish course and an 8-week Mindfulness course. Keep an eye out for new courses starting after Christmas.
  • There will be many events during our Attendance Drive in November. “Every Day Counts!”
  • We are also planning to run numerous other classes and activities throughout the year including Irish classes, Pilates, a Cooking and Nutrition course, Figure Out Maths, a Walking Club, Irish baking and a local library tour to name but a few. Your suggestions are also warmly welcomed and a we are forever grateful to parents/guardians with a willingness to share any hidden talents by volunteering to run a class or course!

If you would like to arrange a meeting, sign up for one of our classes or have any queries,
