Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)

Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)

Here at St Joseph’s, we like to work together to help your child develop his/her full potential and we welcome your involvement in the school. There are many opportunities offered to encourage your involvement, such as coffee mornings, courses for parents/guardians, the Parents Association, school events, talks for parents and Parent Teacher Meetings.

I’d like to introduce myself and explain the role of the Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) Coordinator. My name is Anne Kinsella and my role is to act as a bridge between the home and the school and my focus is on your child’s education.

My work involves:

-Visiting parents and guardians in their homes -

Under normal circumstances I visit parents and guardians in their homes. Home visits can be unannounced, pre-arranged or by request. The purpose of home visits is to open up communication between home and school, provide information about the school, including courses in the school and services in the community and to encourage parents to become parent leaders who can be a resource for the school. At the moment, due to covid restrictions, home visits have been temporarily suspended. I am available for a zoom call and can be reached by email and by phone.

-Organising courses and talks for parents in the school

As of yet we don’t have any parent courses scheduled for this school year. However, I remain very optimistic and aim to run parenting courses in the future, possibly outdoors or virtually. Please watch this space for updates. In the past we have provided a variety of courses for parents/guardians free of charge. A notification is sent out on the iClass app to inform you about them. Through these courses, we hope parents/guardians will feel welcome in the school, get to know other parents/guardians, learn new skills and feel more confident in supporting their children's education.

Here is a list of the excellent courses that have been previously offered and that we hope to run again in the future:

  • Crochet Club
  • Parents Plus
  • Together with Swords Fingal Adult Education, we have previously run an 8-week Spanish course and an 8-week Mindfulness course.
  • Pilates
  • Cooking and Nutrition
  • Figure Out Maths
  • Walking club
  • Baking
  • There have also been many events during our Attendance Drive last November. “Every Day Counts!

Your suggestions are also warmly welcomed and a we are forever grateful to parents/guardians with a willingness to share any hidden talents by volunteering to run a class or course!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions
