This year we had 80 students take part on the Bronze Gaisce Adventure Journeyto Glendalough (25 km) and 30 students took part on the Silver Gaisce Adventure Journey to Camino de Santiago (100km).
TY students have the opportunity to participate in the Gaisce Award programme. Their recent Adventure trip to Glendalough is the culmination of their journey. This was a great overnight stay in Glendalough's Youth Hostel and a 25km hike over the two days. A little rain did not dampen their spirits,
Gaisce – The President’s Award is a self-development programme for young people aged 14-25. It is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to all young people to dream big and realise their potential.
Gaisce's mission is to provide a positive youth development programme that encourages and rewards young people to discover their passions and challenge themselves, positively impacting themselves and the world around them.
Gaisce Participants achieve a Gaisce Award by completing Challenge Areas: Personal Skill, Physical Recreation, Community Involvement, and an Adventure Journey. President’s Award Leaders deliver, guide and support Gaisce Participants undertaking the Award.
They have been required to dedicate a minimum of 1 hour per week for 13 weeks to each main Challenge Area; Personal Skill, Community Involvement and Physical Recreation. They selected one Challenge Area to dedicate an additional 13 weeks to.
Students can be proud of their achievements .
