13 students and their teachers from Gauß Gymnasium (school) in Gelsenkirchen visited St Joseph’s School to spend a few days with our TY German students. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students studying German to practice the language, learn about different cultures and develop new and exciting friendships.
They were involved with Bridge21 in Trinity College on Monday participating in an exciting and innovative workshop, which included creating a short movie.
They also visited the Book of Kells Exhibition.
On Tuesday the German students participated in a Gaeilge lesson as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge and experienced life in an Irish school.
They also learned hurling skills up in St Maur's, a first for all of our German visitors. Following this (with some students quite wet and muddy!) they all had the opportunity to explore our beautiful Rush Village with a Treasure Hunt.
On a wet Wednesday morning, the students and teachers all ventured to Howth and walked to The Bailey Lighthouse together, further developing their new friendships and language skills on the way.
On Thursday, our German guests returned to St Joseph’s for a final visit to experience life as an Irish student and to say farewell to each other with promises to stay in touch.
It was a wonderful week for all involved and we look forward to seeing these new connections develop further.
